there’s this thing these days called "web 2.0" which is about making computers themselves redundant, and improving www and browser technology so everything you need is available from any device with a browser and internet connection

here are some of the web apps i’ve found useful. most need php, some use sql databases

• wordpress - many-featured content management and blogging system, runs this site (php, sql)
• cmsimple - great flat-file content management system this site used to run on (php)
• roundcube - amazing imap mail client (php, sql)
• fredgallery - awesome simple image gallery (php, gd)
• net2ftp - web-based ftp client (php, sql optional)
• mediawiki - open collaborative software, what wikipedia uses (php, sql)
• pmwiki - smaller wiki application, doesn’t require database (php)
• phproxy - browse sites from your webhost
• trevorchan - imageboard, run your own /b/ (php, sql)

and things supplied by other sites

• gmail - best email service out there
• google docs - free online word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software
• google reader - rss/atom/xml feed aggregator (aka: a news reader)
