web apps
there’s this thing these days called "web 2.0" which is about making computers themselves redundant, and improving www and browser technology so everything you need is available from any device with a browser and internet connection
here are some of the web apps i’ve found useful. most need php, some use sql databases
- wordpress - many-featured content management and blogging system, runs this site (php, sql)
- cmsimple - great flat-file content management system this site used to run on (php)
- roundcube - amazing imap mail client (php, sql)
- fredgallery - awesome simple image gallery (php, gd)
- net2ftp - web-based ftp client (php, sql optional)
- mediawiki - open collaborative software, what wikipedia uses (php, sql)
- pmwiki - smaller wiki application, doesn’t require database (php)
- phproxy - browse sites from your webhost
- trevorchan - imageboard, run your own /b/ (php, sql)
and things supplied by other sites
- gmail - best email service out there
- google docs - free online word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software
- google reader - rss/atom/xml feed aggregator (aka: a news reader)
